What drew me to zu?

Something caught my attention the moment I opened up your website. I couldn’t quite explain it at first. As I kept learning more and digging further, the more it clicked: This place is different.

Zu is exciting!

From the thoughtful digital products you create, to the people behind them, to the culture that surrounds it all (and even the office space) there’s an energy to it that is so inspiring.

At Zu, I wouldn’t be looking for a “work-life balance”, because the work you do and I’d be doing is something I’d want to integrate with all areas of my life, and I’d be thrilled doing it. I believe in the impact the company creates, and I am genuinely aligned with the values of your team. Therefore, I could simply dedicate myself to becoming the best Account Coordinator possible, and be proud to do so.

Why i made this website?

Well, since discovering Zu, I’ve found myself imagining what it would be like to contribute, to learn, and to grow as a part of your team.

So I made this website, built not just to express how I feel, but to put it into action. Driven by my curiosity and eagerness to learn, this is a space to explore what I didn’t know, dive deeper into your work, and start showing how I think, learn and add value.

I hope you enjoy it even a fraction as much as I did making it!

A bit about me

I am someone who is energized by learning about how things work and how people can come together in order to make great things happen. This insatiable curiosity and deep eagerness to learn shapes the way I approach challenges, learn new skills, and support the people around me. Also, I am a very lighthearted guy who cherishes life and people, and treats them with the kindness, respect and understanding they deserve.

This is why I feel a genuine connection to Zu.

The way your team collaborates, communicates, trusts, and pushes one another resonates with me deeply. At Zu, I see an environment where I could thrive, learn from the team around me, and contribute meaningfully. Not just as “Account Coordinator”, but as a teammate.

So here’s a bit more about my background and experiences that have shaped the kind of person I’m becoming.

My strengths

Organization and System-Oriented Thinking

I wasn’t always an organized person. I used to lose things left and right, my wallet, appointments, you name it. I was always reacting instead of planning. After one too many lost wallets and missed commitments, I realized that if I wanted to get serious about my goals, something needed to change.

I started by building systems; simple, yet intentional, fundamental changes. Daily schedules I would make myself follow, task tracking, structured routines. It was very tough at first, and felt unnatural. But slowly, I found clarity, focus, and joy in the process. Structure started to give me freedom. Today I find peace in organization, and treat it like an ever-evolving craft. My closet is color-coded, my day is planned out, and I can quickly adapt from the big-picture to small details, dynamically adjusting my priorities.

I’ve applied this same mindset to my current role at Varsity Medical, where it’s essential: I handle complex processes and communications that require precision, and manage sensitive documents and timelines.

I would bring this same aptitude for systems-driven organization to truly excel within the Account Coordinator position at Zu, ensuring clarity amongst the team and projects.

The Power of Communication and Collaboration

I have always been a people person. I love listening to people, asking questions, getting to understand different perspectives, and creating an environment where everyone feels heard and valued. I believe that open, honest, and genuine communication builds trust among teams and opens the door to all possibilities.

However, It’s not just about communication. I believe the key to revolutionary and innovative results is in the power of teamwork: many minds are greater than one, especially if they are collaborating in the right way. The best ideas come when unique perspectives meet, and people align towards a common goal.

Harnessing the true potential of communication is something I strive to achieve every day, and if I can bring a smile to someone’s face, I am happier than I was a second before.

These values of genuine communication, trust, and powerful collaboration are part of the DNA at Zu, and I would be thrilled to contribute to that culture.

Clarity Through Strategy

As someone who is a naturally business-oriented thinker, strategy is the backbone of my decision-making. My plan of action is to break things down, find the root of the challenges that are in my way, and figure out how to move forward with intention. I believe that this is where real strategy stems from: from reasoned diagnosis, not from flashy ideas.

If there’s data available to inform the path forward, I want to analyze it and learn from it. Patterns demonstrate what does and doesn’t work.

This is strategy to me: finding the most important problem and connecting the dots to make reasoned decisions.

Zu’s work reflects the same values, prioritizing thoughtful diagnosis, and then designing intentional solutions that are built with purpose. The opportunity to contribute strategic thinking towards a valuable impact, alongside a like-minded team, excites me.

Education

I left my beautiful hometown of Saskatoon to study business in Vancouver, where I earned my

Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Colombia.

I am grateful for the experiences I had, and as much as I valued my time and education there, it wasn’t long after graduating before I found myself dying to return home. There is something special about Saskatoon that just always stays with you.

Another thing I love about Zu is how deeply rooted you are in this city. It’s clear that you care about this city, and so do I.

One of the biggest business lessons I took away from my time at UBC was from my “New Product Development Course” (thank you Professor Silk), and this is the understanding that great businesses/products do not start with a “good idea”.

Business is all about solving problems.

  • If you can identify a major problem, then you have the seed of an opportunity.
  • If you can solve it effectively, then you have created value for people.
  • If you can create value for lots of people, then you have a powerful business/product.

Forget about “coming up with a good idea”, and focus on solving the biggest problem you can find in a powerful way.

And this is what I love about Zu. You solve important, meaningful problems for people. And you do it excellently.

Work experience

VARSITY MEDICAL SPECIALISTS              MEDICAL OFFICE COORDINATOR                        / 2024 – PRESENT

At Varsity Medical, a prominent respirology clinic in Saskatoon, I help keep the clinic running smoothly by coordinating patient care, managing communications, and supporting our doctors and administrative staff. I prepare patients for appointments, summarize key details in structured reports, and ensure everything flows clearly between people and systems.

This role has helped me sharpen how I write, speak, and stay organized, especially when the pace picks up and every detail matters.

Key Takeaways:

  • I’ve learned to communicate clearly and effectively to various, diverse people, patients and high-level professionals
  • Gained experience in preparing, writing, and organizing precise clinical reports and documentation
  • Built confidence in managing time while paying attention to details

INDEPENDANT CONSULTING                            PERSONAL EXPLORATION                                      / 2023-2024

After my time with The Sales Factory, I took some intentional time off to reset, ask myself deeper questions, and find clarity with the path I want to go down. I spent some time exploring the world, experiencing and learning from different cultures, and thinking about the work I truly want to do.

During this time, I supported a travel influencer with 1.5 million followers (benyaminmarco, check him out, he’s awesome!), assisting with outreach, securing brand deals, and developing strategies for engagement.

Key Takeaways:

  •  I learned to be resourceful and invent creative marketing strategies based on analyzing trends and patterns
  • Honed my communication and outreach skills towards a new audience
  • I learned the value of taking time to reflect, reset, and grow

THE SALES FACTORY                                  BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT REPRESENTATIVE / 2022- 2023

During my time at The Sales Factory, an-up and-coming B2B sales agency, I was introduced to the fundamentals of B2B sales and outbound communication. I learned how to reach out to leads, hold a conversation with them, handle objections with empathy, and the importance of understanding your customers pain points.

One key project involved working with my client-partners marketing team, where I made suggestions to improve their sales deck. We reframed the pitch to revolve around the customers needs, rather than our features. This is where I started to really understand the deeper psychology behind sales and persuasive communication.

Key Takeaways:

  • Learned the basics of B2B sales, outreach, and client engagement
  • Experienced the importance of empathy in sales and business
  • Gained confidence in collaborating between marketing and sales teams

Grass Barbers: My Entrepreneurial Journey

Grass Barbers started as me just trying earn a bit of extra money by doing some lawn care services for my neighbours. I quickly realized that a lot of people need help maintaining and elevating their lawns, and that there is an opportunity here. I started expanding beyond my neighbourhood, and beyond the typical lawnmowing and raking services.

I had to overcome many fears at this stage; mainly that of going door to door and trying to pitch my services. Every time I walked up to a door, I felt a sense of anxiety and fear that I was bothering someone, or that they would not be interested, and it would all end in rejection.

After hundreds of reps, I began to change my belief systems and overcome my fears. After thousands of reps, I actually started liking doing it, and it became fun. I took this opportunity to practice my sales, and soon enough my schedule was quickly overflowing.

At this stage, I realized that I have to expand my business. I brought on a friend, and then eventually a small team. We had to become experts at the services we were providing, ensuring that we provide the highest quality service for our customers.

So I went to work on taking the next step – The Growth Phase: Here I started developing systems and strategies that worked: I devised a handbook for door to door sales for my new team members, I planned a referral program to engage with more potential customers, I built our branding and advertising; printing hundreds of posters and business cards, and I started to secure bigger contracts for repeat customers. Very quickly I was leading a team of 5 people and had a very packed schedule to manage.

This was all so exciting, and kind of scary at the same time.

I continued to knock on doors, make sales, manage my team, and help people get the lawn of their dreams.

Eventually, fall came around, the weather got cold and there was no more services we could perform. So, we packed it up, and called it a summer.

Then next spring came along and I went right back at it again. This time I knew what I was doing a lot better, I had experienced the lessons and inefficiencies of the year before, and I knew that this was a real opportunity to have an even better season. And so we did. We had angreat season, made a lot of money, left a lot of people with a smile on their face, and learned so much about business, teamwork, communication, sales, marketing, and everything else in between.

I cherished this opportunity deeply, but ultimately, I decided to hang up my hat from the lawncare industry, and return back to school.

I still think about that business often. It taught me what’s possible when you lean into discomfort, take initiative, and care deeply about the people you serve.

This is a brief deep dive into who I am, my story, and the way I think. If any of it resonated with you, I'd love to opportunity to get to connect further. Thanks for taking the time to get to know me a bit :))

I wasn’t familiar with certain topics that are an important part of Zu’s operations. This journal is where I begin to learn and understand them more deeply. Click below to read more!
